A band program as busy as the Freedom Band Program cannot
run without the willing and able hands of a LARGE ARMY of
parent volunteers.
During the 2008/2009 school year, the band program required
3756 volunteer hours to operate. That is 24 hours per
student in the program!
You can volunteer as often or as little you are able. Each
area of volunteerism has a committee head that coordinates
the activities of that volunteer area.
1. Concessions - Concessions is our main
source of fundraising for the band program. Concession
profits are used to purchase new instruments, maintenance
on instruments, music, and offset the cost of buses.
Concessions offset the fairshare amounts before they are
calculated for the year. Concessions is open during Home JV
Football games, Home Varsity Football games on Fridays and
other Special Events throughout the school year. Training
will be provided.
2a. Chaperones – supervision of students
and student areas on buses and at performances
2b. Equipment Crew – loading/unloading and
transportation of equipment
2c. Uniforms – distribution and
maintenance of uniforms This group works together every
time any ensemble performs - Marching Band, Concert Bands,
Percussion Ensembles, Winterguard. Each performance
requires 10-20 volunteers.
3. Medical Volunteers - This is a group of
licensed nurses, physician’s assistants and doctors. At
least one person from this group is available every time
the marching band performs or rehearses.
4. Special Events - This group is
responsible for Summer Band, Middle School Night, Banquet
and other events throughout the year.
5. School Day Assistance - Anyone who has
a free day or even a couple of hours during school hours
who would like to come in and do miscellaneous duties.
6. Accounting - Keeps track on Charms of
all Student Ledger information and receipts for the band.
Training will be provided.
7. Semi-Tractor Driver - If you have a CDL
and would be willing to be "on-call” to drive the equipment
of the band program.
8. General Fundraising - This committee
plans and coordinates the monthly fundraisers for the band
program.
9. Costume and Flag Sewing - Volunteer who
desire to help do basic sewing and hemming of uniforms,
costumes and flags. This saves us big time $$$! Please
contact Ms. Brown if you can volunteer or for more
information.
