What is Twitter?
Like most things, Twitter may seem strange if you've never used it. However, Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, often called "tweets" of 140 characters or fewer.
 
Do I need anything special to use it?
All you need to use Twitter is an internet connection or a mobile phone. It is absolutely free.
 
What does it mean to follow someone on Twitter?
Following someone simply means receiving their Twitter updates.  When you follow someone, every time they post a new message, it will appear in your Twitter home page. New messages are added to your home page as people post them, so you always get the updates in real time. When you log in, you can see what the latest updates are. Twitter offers other ways to follow people too. You can get updates from certain people on your phone!

How does the Freedom Band use Twitter?
Short updates, reminders, audio files, and audio files are posted regularly. This is the fastest and easiest way to get information to our students quickly. As a bonus, you can choose to receive the updates via text message! (standard text messaging charges apply)
 
Example "tweets":
1. We're running late coming back from the show due to the rain.
2. Don't forget to bring your fundraiser form tomorrow.
3. Listen to this clip of how great the band sounds.
4. Practice is canceled due to rain. (YEAH RIGHT!)
 
Where can I view the Freedom Band Twitter?
1. www.freedombands.ocps.net - the left column shows the latest “tweets”
2. www.twitter.com/freedomhsband/ - the main page of latest “tweets” will be displayed.
3. Create a twitter account and follow “freedomhsband”. You can view the latest from the Freedom Band in your main feed or have twitter notify you when updates are posted.
 
How do I sign up for Twitter?
Visit www.twitter.com/signup and it is a quick one page form.
 
How do I follow the Freedom Band?
1. Login to your account
2. Click on "Find People" in the top right hand corner.
3. Type "freedom band" into the box that says “Who are you looking for?”
4. Click the "Follow" button next to "freedomhsband."
 
How do I get the text message updates from the band?
1. Log into your account
2. Click "Settings" in the top right hand corner.
3. Click "Devices"
4. Enter your mobile phone number.
5. Check the box and click "Save"
6. On your phone, send the text of the verification message to 40404.
7. Click "Home" in the top right hand corner.
8. Underneath your username, click “following” to bring up who you are following.
9. Click the small round gray box with a small mobile phone picture next to "freedomhsband." It should become green.
