As an educational partner, the Freedom High School Percussion Program performs exclusively on Pro-Mark Sticks and Mallets.

2010/2011 Percussion Weekly Test Schedule

CONGRATULATIONS to the Freedom High School Percussion Ensemble for being selected to play at the Florida Music Educators Association Clinic/Conference in January. The Percussion Ensemble was the ONE ensemble selected out of all Percussion Ensemble in the state to perform for an assembled crowd of music teachers. THIS IS TRULY A HIGH HONOR.



Percussion Ensemble addresses specific instruction in the area of percussion. Students can expect to play challenging literature in an intense percussion environment. The Percussion Ensembles perform at several concerts and other related venues each year and performs the percussion parts with the concert bands at all performances. Participation in the Marching Band is a required component of Percussion Ensemble.

The Percussion Curriculum addresses two distinct areas of Percussion study that are treated as two sides of the same coin:
1. Concert Percussion
2. Marching Band Percussion

Prerequisites: Audition, previous (middle school or high school) experience in percussion.

Requirements of students enrolled in Concert Band classes:
* Participation in Marching Band
* Participation in Summer Band Course (last two weeks of summer break)
* Participation in FBA Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment
* Participation in all assigned concert performances
* Participation in all assigned after-school and evening rehearsals


OCPS Extra-Curricular Participation Requirements
Even though performances are an activity required of course curriculum, OCPS policies dictate that students follow OCPS Policies regarding Extra-Curricular Participation and Grade Point Average:

1. Students must currently have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
2. Students will be removed if the GPA falls below 2.0

Students who have a GPA below 2.0 or whose GPA falls below 2.0 will be assigned an alternative assignment that mirrors time commitment of their classmates.
