Percussion Ensemble class meets daily to study the idiomatic literature and develop the pedagogical needs of the percussionist in a high school band program. All students enrolled in the Percussion Ensemble course are required to participate in the Freedom High School Marching Band.

The Percussion Ensemble Curriculum is divided into four components:
1. Marching Percussion
a. Performance of assigned marching percussion responsibilities
b. Attendance at rehearsals and sectionals
2. Individual Development
a. Fundamental of Musicianship
i. Note Reading
ii. Rhythm Reading
b. Mallet/Keyboard Skills
c. Rudimental Drum Skills
d. Concert Percussion Instrument Skills
e. Solo Literature (All students will perform a solo at the Florida Bandmasters Association Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment)
3. Percussion Ensemble Literature (All students will perform in an ensemble at the Florida Bandmasters Association Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment as well as at all assigned concerts.)
4. Wind Band Literature (All students will perform Wind Band literature with the Concert Bands at all concerts and the Florida Bandmasters Association Concert Band Music Performance Assessment.)

OCPS Extra-Curricular Participation Requirements
Even though performances beyond Freedom High School are required of course curriculum, OCPS policies dictate that students follow OCPS Policies regarding Extra-Curricular Participation and Grade Point Average:
1. Students must currently have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
2. Students will be removed if the GPA falls below 2.0
Students who have a GPA below 2.0 or whose GPA falls below 2.0 will be assigned an alternative assignment that mirrors time commitment to Concert Percussion.
