The Jazz Ensemble is a select group of instrumentalists from the Band Program which provides students an introduction to styles and idiomatic performance, techniques of representative contemporary pop music and jazz literature. It includes interpretation of beginning levels of varying styles of jazz literature. Emphasis is placed on characteristic tone production and idiomatic performance techniques. As a performance oriented course, attendance is required for rehearsals and performances beyond regular school hours.

Prerequisites: Audition, previous (middle school or high school) experience on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, rhythm guitar, jazz piano, bass, or drumset; a fully-functioning intermediate model instrument. Enrollment in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, or Percussion Ensemble.
